Master’s Program
1.There is a minimum of 30 credits required for graduation.
2.A minimum of 30 total credits of coursework must include 6-credit required courses, core courses in the student’s field of study and other elective courses.
3.Starting from the academic year 2021, students admitted to the GPE (Graduate Program in English) are not required to finish the required and core courses. However, those students must complete a minimum of 15 credits of coursework from GPE courses for master’s program offered by the department and 15 elective credits of EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) courses offered by NTNU or other universities.
4.Graduate students are allowed to take any Research and Statistics courses from all master’s programs in the College of Sports and Recreation, and those courses will count as cross-faculty electives.
5.Students are allowed to take a maximum of 15 credits per semester. Additional credits that are not required for graduation (e.g., teacher education courses and additional undergraduate courses) may not exceed 21 credits each semester, except for those who have completed a minimum of 30 credits required for graduation or have not taken any courses in master’s and PhD programs in the current semester.
PhD Program
1.There is a minimum of 30 credits required for graduation.
2.A minimum of 30 total credits of coursework must include the required courses (3 credits) and core courses in the student’s field of study (18 credits within the major and 9 credits from the elective courses). With approval from the doctoral advisor, students must earn at least 4 credits from the courses related to the field of study (excluding those from the master’s and PhD programs in Physical Education).
3.For new graduates accepted to the PhD program on the basis of a bachelor’s degree, in addition to the 30 credits required for graduation, 6 additional credits of “Research in Physical Education” and “Statistics and Experimental Design (I)” in the master’s program are required, as well as at least one core course in the field of study in the master’s program.
